There is/There are

¿ Cuándo utilizar there is y cuándo there are ? 

Tanto there is como there are significan hay en castellano.

There is se utiliza para el singular: 

There is a garage... / There is a small garden... / There is a tall chimney...   

Y there are para el plural: 

There are two big windows.../ There are three windows...


Si lo que quieres decir es que no hay:

There isn't... / there aren't...   ( como harías con el verbo to be )

Si lo que quieres es preguntar ¿ Hay... ?:

Is there...? / Are there...?   ( como harías con el verbo to be )
